The Streaming Platform is Producing a Far Cry TV Show from the Creators of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The newest Far Cry title that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the bad guy, Antón, and debuted on October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it has a reputation for embracing violence and madness with the same excitement, all while telling gripping, socially charged narratives. No wonder then that the network’s new order for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two visionaries whose projects have represented all of those things.
About the Series
Based on Ubisoft's hit video game franchise, the limited anthology series will be available on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The anthology will also follow the video games' format by having a fresh backdrop and group of personalities in each season.
Creative Minds
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as lead producers on the series through their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had excellent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, gripping, and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this beloved property.”
What’s Next
Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what part that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently greenlit for a second instalment, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new overall deal with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, placing faith in us with one of the most renowned video-game universes ever created. And through it all, my FX family always encourages me with their ongoing belief and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology program. Each game is a take of a concept, the same way every run of Fargo is a version on a premise,” noted Hawley. “To create a large-scale action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always delving into the nature of people through this intricate and chaotic perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and bring our mutual irreverent, daring style to the television.”
A release window for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
