Spurs Boss Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Real Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.
However the primary talking point was Fulham's next score when Vicario lost possession far outside his box.
He ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.
One of those booing episodes really angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an better second-half showing.
Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his third season with Tottenham.
He stated following the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second score was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."
He stated being booed "is part of the game".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to remain increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," he said.
"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of extra time. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
While the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an all-round poor day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club record along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the end of the season.
Just a single of those victories have come since Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a unique story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
Ex- Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got take the stick," the pundit said. "He's taken a prestigious job at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
