Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
