Six Arrested Following €12M Robbery on Gold Processing Laboratory in the French Republic

A group of six individuals carrying assault rifles and handguns employed explosives to breach the security of a precious metals processing plant located in Lyon, causing light wounds to five workers during what is being called the most recent prominent daytime heist to occur in the country.

The bold operation took place on the afternoon of Thursday, with police forces quickly arresting the alleged criminals and recovering the stolen goods assessed at around €12 million (£10.5 million), according to officials.

Five staff members of Laboratoires Pourquery were slightly hurt from the blast, and three employees were transported to hospital for evaluation, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight workers were inside the facility when the perpetrators raided.

The suspects, considered seasoned offenders, were taken into custody a brief time later in the nearby town of Vénissieux, according to investigative sources.

A female accomplice involved in the heist was also apprehended, according to law enforcement.

“Six individuals who utilized explosives in an attack on a gold refining facility in Lyon were caught in the act,” France's security official stated online, praising officers for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.

The heist took place as French police on Thursday apprehended five additional individuals, including a primary suspect, in connection with the bold theft at the Louvre.

Dozens of investigators have been pursuing four thieves who utilized a lorry featuring an elevating platform and cutting tools to breach a first-floor gallery at the prestigious institution on 19 October, making off with precious items estimated to be worth €88 million.

In a separate high-profile case, thieves last month broke into the Natural History Museum in Paris, stealing gold samples valued at more than one million dollars. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was taken into custody recently in Barcelona in regarding the theft, according to legal authorities.

The sequence of heists has generated apprehension in the nation regarding insufficient protection at cultural venues and other facilities containing precious artifacts.
