Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
