People have assembled throughout the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the single most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our violent enemies have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will not present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled official memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the plan.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions said that an evening round of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The source explained the morning session finished without significant progress, amid conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "difficult and have yet to produce any significant progress," but mentioned that intermediaries are striving to reduce the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Matters in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the region

Citizen Reaction

In the city's public square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the attack on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere seems like home now and until all the hostages come back not a single person will have peace of mind."

"After we see everyone home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people assembled to show their backing for the families of the abducted. Israel states forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman explained: "It's necessary do any agreement necessary for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now consistently show that approximately the majority of Israelis want the war to end in return for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of military attacks and explosions could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli shelling continued.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the dawn of that day in the western district, sector and Nasr areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"As the evening arrives, the dread arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are lying together, clinging, particularly my youngest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be finalized and that the fighting will resume to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had received the bodies of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city indicated two more victims had been delivered. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the south, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
